Asmita Prasad:

Steam rooms are one of the most popular features of the modern spa experience. However, the demands of functionality imposes a rather strict boundary around any steam room and they are relegated to being boring and tedious in terms of decor. The Majestic Steam Room concept by Mehmet Akça, however, looks to bring a splash of color to steam rooms and infuses them with a vibrancy that is rare for such places.

The steam room comes with all its surfaces fully covered in marble. Since the seats would be sculpted out of marble monoliths, the chance of bacterial and fungal buildup in crevices between seats and joints is minimized. The natural soothing quality of marble also produces a calming effect that draws inspiration from the traditional Turkish bath designs. The curved seating allows droplets to be condensed and drain away behind the seats.

The Majestic Steam Room concept also features a fountain in its center, which offers a pleasant departure from regular steam room designs. The flow of water in the fountain also helps to regulate the humidity and temperature inside the steam room and water drain system hidden under it helps in removing water accumulated on the floor and prevents it from becoming slippery.

Asmita Prasad:

The Anemos Gas concept from designer Danilo De Roberto is developed to meet the requirements of patients suffering from asthma and was made keeping in mind the guidelines for nebulizers in the pharmaceutical industry. Careful study and a series of research notes formed the basis for the design of this device which was created in collaboration with specialists. The basic aim of the Anemos Gas concept is to make the use of oral sprays easier and more effective for patients.

The device is designed for the treatments of asthmatic complaints

Offering the possibility of charging, the Anemos concept responds to a demand for greater ergonomics. Affordable in economic terms, the device is easy to use, comfortable and secure. Designed to be multipurpose, the device offers the possibility to select the quantity and type of drug used and thus could be used in the treatment of asthmatic complaints and could also be adapted to various types of therapies.

For inhalation therapy, the device offers two obvious advantages over other nebulizers. Firstly, it offers the possibility of charging which reduces the need to use batteries and secondly, the Anemos system uses compressed air in place of gas which enhances the ease of use. By breathing inside the nozzle the drug is operated automatically and enters the lungs more deeply which makes it effective even for patients with weak ventilation capabilities.

Nike+ FuelBand fuels battle of the health monitors

Asmita Prasad:

Here's something for exercise freaks, who now have yet another gadget to fuel their OCDs. Dubbed as the FuelBand, this nifty little offering from Nike promises to keep you up to speed with your fitness routine. The gadget is geared to measure calories burned during any form of exercise as well as the number of steps you take while working out. The FuelBand also keeps track of the time during exercise, which means that you don't need to wear your expensive sports watch while jogging in the morning.

The intersection of sport and data with a wristband that measures movement to motivate

In case the standard number of features does not impress you, this rather bizarre addition just might. Apparently, the FuelBand also tracks your wrist movement for some odd reason, which has drawn its fair share of rude jokes and puns across various forums that have previewed the gizmo. Lewd commentary notwithstanding, Nike has announced that this particular feature allows users to earn something the company call NikeFuel which helps users meet goals and set up challenges for themselves. When you have met your NikeFuel score for the day, the 20 color-coded LED lights on the band turn green to let you know you have achieved your goal for the day. The NikeFuel score resets at midnight so you have to keep setting a NikeFuel goal for yourself everyday which is the only bit of inconvenience that the band poses.

When you synchronize your Nike+ FuelBand to your iPhone/smartphone or PC via Bluetooth connection or via a USB cable, you can keep track of your NikeFuel scores and even set up targets for yourself. You can share these scores across social media or even generate graphs and judge your own performance over time. The Nike+ FuelBand is set to hit stores on 22nd February and it will be retailed for $149.
