Jaspreet Kaur Walia:

Lighting units or lamps have the tendency to change the mood of an area with the charm they come smothered with. How about investing in a unit that will not only spread warmth, but will also embellish the area like a beautiful piece of art? Refik Burak Atatur has come up with a decorative lighting unit, which has been crafted with utmost precision and has a bewitching style.

Christened the Dandelion Lamp, it spreads light in a way that captivate senses and adds a dramatic glow to the atmosphere it is placed in. The flexible lighting unit will pamper your creative side as its form can be changed as desired. The design features acrylic petals, which can rotate 360 degrees and can be twisted as per a user's whims and fancies. A special mechanism, present on each petal makes sure that the orientation gets locked on the circular shaped tube. This also powers the LED and brightens up the area with a magical glow. The LEDs don't come attached with cables because of the presence of 360 degrees rotation as attaching cables will act as a hindrance while using the lighting unit.

Dandelion Lamp has been fitted with colorful LED lights, which create a beautiful effect at the edges when the light is switched on. The shape of the awe-inspiring lighting unit is maintained because of the presence of an internal mechanism, which keeps it from falling apart. Dandelion Lamp is an attention grabbing light, which can be used with or without a support system. Place it on the floor or table and see the effect it creates. The decorative lighting unit can be used in restaurants, coffee houses and even homes. So see magic unfurl as the Dandelion Lamp diffuses light and adds sparkle to the area.

Mars Rover for the year 2050 will save humanity in the future

Asmita Prasad:

The most common gloom and doom scenario envisioned by sci-fi enthusiast is that earth in the future would be too polluted to live in and the human race would have to escape to other planets and build bases there to survive. The Mars Rover 2050 project came into being at the heels of such a vision where humankind needs to find new resources on other planets to avoid pending extinction.

Created by designer Kevin Bickham in collaboration with Nevin de Paravincini, Kyungeun Ko and Chris Pinches, the Mars Rover 2050 concept is built with the sole purpose of aiding the preservation of the human race. The vehicle will be a part of the UN expedition to Mars that would build and sustain a greenhouse on the Red Planet for a duration of two years.

The Mars Rover is designed for mobility as well as for providing a pre-fab modular base of operations. The design dissembles itself into one-quarter of the wheels when it is needed for mobility and when the four individual Mars rovers attach, they can also transform into a single modular entity. Solo expeditions across Mars terrain can be undertaken in the individual rovers that can act as personal vehicles as well as private quarters for the crew.

When combined, the rover serves as a hub of communal/social interaction as well as the center for oxygen and food production when used as a greenhouse. To sustain the man-made closed loop ecosystem, the Mars Rover 2050 would contribute to the system of food/energy production and primarily use solar energy production to sustain the greenhouse, the crew and the vehicles.

Futuristic vehicle inspired by the BMW Vision, a cow’s skull and a backpack

Asmita Prasad:

What do you get when you put together a backpack, a cow's skull and the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car? For a common man, the answer to that query would be a very Gothic piece of auto-branded luggage. But for designer Adrian Candela, the combination of these disparate entities brings on the vision for a futuristic mobility solution he likes to call The Backpack.

The concept for The Backpack remains, for the moment, just a form study. But it does throw up the delicious possibility of turning into a truly remarkable and stylistically sharp vehicle at some point in the future. It may be less traditional than anything we know of at the moment yet the concept is equally valid in future urban mobility solution segment.

The concept uses the standard components found on a traditional backpack, namely the small front pocket, the straps and the main compartment, and sizes them progressively to be 1/3 the size of the latter entity. All the three components are then envisioned in a curious "S" shape, which is further divided into thirds to ensure that the bulk of the weight of the mass remains concentrated on the top.

The secondary and tertiary parts are intentionally so positioned to appear as if they are separated from the main part. Using the overall form asymmetry and use of negative space as featured in the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car, the Backpack develops into a highly unusual though equally interesting concept for a vehicle that could be absolute genius if the designer throws a few wheels onto it.
