The scooter backpack makes alternate mobility even more appealing Posted: 19 Jan 2012 03:13 AM PST Asmita Prasad: Going green is really the buzzword with the urban youth today but most of them don't want to buy a bicycle because storing it is too much of a hassle. Scooters and skateboards are the most natural medium of green urban travel for this demographic but the zero cargo hauling capacity that scooters offer deters many from using them as a real alternative to fuel-guzzling modes of transport. Luckily, designer Gustavo Brenck has come up with the perfect backpack for use with scooter.
Gig Pack Most scooter owners have to carry a backpack on their backs while using their green wheels but this scooter backpack called Gig Pack allows them to let the scooter carry their load. The backpack itself is crafted out of water-proof nylon though the integrated scooter uses an aluminum frame. This sturdy frame is light enough to be carried by user on their back and yet strong enough to carry their weight when in motion. The framing also helps keep the backpack upright when stored at the front of the scooter. This allows users to store a lot of stuff in the backpack including notebooks and tablet PCs without worrying about the backpack falling off the scooter. The scooter is designed in a way that it can easily be folded into the backpack which makes it easier to carry when one has to use a metro, a train or a bus or even when one needs to store the scooter and bring the backpack along with them. Large rubber wheels on the scooter are perfect for tackling even the most rugged sidewalks and the scooter itself can easily carry passengers weighing up to 90kgs. |

iBamboo Passive Acoustic Speaker Picture Gallery iBamboo Passive Acoustic Speaker Says No to Electricity The passive acoustic speaker has been designed by Anatoliy Omelchenko. iBamboo Speaker will work well when connected to an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. The design is very simple and has been made from a piece of bamboo that is open from both the ends. It has been crafted in a way, which will allow you to place your iPhone at the top of the design. Sound gets amplified because of the resonance of the hollow body of the natural speaker. This means that the speakers don't need to be attached to any kind of power supply, hence are clean and green in nature just like their material. iBamboo Speaker has been caked in black lacquer that will produce a stereo-like effect. No two speakers are identical as they are made from a natural material that varies in appearance. The passive amplifier has a plain appearance, which will blend well with the sophisticated look of the attention-grabbing iPhone. So, carry this simple device (priced $25) wherever you go and listen to great music without the tension of getting tangled in messy wires. Via: Technabob |
An inclusive bike sharing concept - rethink, rebike, recycle Posted: 18 Jan 2012 09:28 PM PST Ruchi Jha: BING bicycle sharing system acknowledges environmental, social and economic factors and is a unique combination of new technologies with old materials. If statistics are to be taken into account, nearly 400,000 bicycles are discarded every year in Denmark. The system proposes to renovate and recollect old bicycles wherein old wheels are replaced with newly designed green wheels that are safe and secure.
BING BING bikes can be assembled locally in non-specialized factories as they use standard and familiar parts. An added advantage is that since all the nuts and bolts are changed with customized parts, these parts can only be replaced using corresponding tools and stops burglary. The bike can be accessed with the help of a key and the available bikes can be checked out and unlocked in the matter of seconds. Green light shows that the bicycle is available for use. Yellow light signifies that the bicycle is booked and red light signifies that the bicycle is in use. These bicycles can be booked through web and also through SMS. These bicycles are not attached to any rack and are free standing, though certain locations have the ground marked in green color. If the bicycle is taken away from the desired zone, it will automatically be detected by the built in GPS system and the rear wheel will surely start to tighten. It will loosen up only when the bicycle is brought back to the desired zone. If the bicycle is outside the bike share zone for more than 15 minutes, the bicycle's coordinates will be send out by Smarthub and it can be found again. The main idea behind this system is to preserve energy and reduce waste being produced in the bicycle manufacturing industry and is aimed to increase job opportunities in public employment sector in the city.
