Ultra Long Distance Wheelchair is the Grand Tourer of racing wheelchairs

Posted: 18 Jan 2012 04:55 AM PST

Asmita Prasad:

Unlike racing bicycles, touring bicycles aren't as stripped back and thus allow cyclists to sustain performance over a period of time. In the same way, Grand Touring cars provide long-term performance insight that helps engineers design race-worthy cars for the road. The same principles of performance and sturdiness are used in the design of the Ultra Long Distance Wheelchair by designer Andrew Mitchell. The wheelchair has been designed specifically to accommodate rough usage by professionals over ultra long distances.

Comfort for the user and optimal performance were some of the main priorities in its design, though it is created more as a stylistic experiment for racing wheelchairs. To propel a wheelchair along, tracking motion is required and comfort of the user is paramount when the cyclist needs to transfer his physical strength to the wheelchair's on-road movement over long distances. For touring use, the Ultra Long Distance Wheelchair positions the rider in such a way that his chest is placed in an open position to facilitate better breathing. The position of the legs is also more relaxed than a traditional racing wheelchair to minimize discomfort. This position also gives the rider more options for supporting body weight using a more traditional seating position than resting it solely on the legs.

By keeping the shoulders over the front edge of the driving wheels, the whole body position can be engaged by the rider to provide maximum power. In this orientation, the body position is quite open and thus helps prevent stress and strain over long periods of time. The exterior of the Ultra Long Distance Wheelchair has been covered in carbon fiber and some of it is left exposed intentionally. Gold and red accenting along the key performance parts helps draw attention to the smaller details of the bike and makes the wheelchair look sporty and aggressive.

The EOFSM hooks onto bags with ease so users can shop handsfree or they can also plug in their headphones and give their favorite new tracks a listen while they shop. The connectivity functions on the phone make it easier to get opinions from online friends and makes shopping fun even when you are on your own.

Solo Traffic Light to offer more functionality to traffic signals

Posted: 17 Jan 2012 11:19 PM PST

Asmita Prasad:

Modern traffic lights have undergone very little change since they were first pioneered by Utah policeman, Lester Wire in 1912. However, designer Matheus de Luca Moreira Pinto has envisioned a new kind of traffic light system that would fit in with the traffic incidents of modern metropolises more seamlessly. The Solo Traffic Light not only incorporates the primary functions of controlling traffic but also comes with a variety of functions that could be used by law enforcement agencies and emergency workers to assist in managing detours, construction works and road accidents.

The emergency luminaries used in the Solo Traffic Light individually ensure many secondary uses with its three modules allowing multiple urban signaling functions. Since modularity is the essence of the design, the Solo Traffic Light would be useful for society in general as well as companies, industries, police and transit operators. The versatile project is designed to be cost effective during the manufacturing process while its simple and reliable structure which uses a fastening system and two rubber sealing makes it resistant to bad weather conditions.

A snap fit system is sued to assemble the Solo Traffic Light so when the lights need to be repaired or inspected, only the posterior part has to be removed to access its electricals. The fittings and wire passages of the LED board are easily accessible which makes it unnecessary for the entire structure to be dissembled for maintenance purposes. The self-sufficient system is also energy efficient and makes it easier for passengers to see the lights in the day as well.

Divephone lets divers keep track of their undersea performance

Asmita Prasad:

Diving as a sport has become massively popular among the masses over the course of recent years with more and more people taking to the depths of the seas to satiate their hunger for thrills. But keeping track of one's diving performance is still monopolized by expensive gadgetry and there really aren't any alternatives for people who don't want to spend a bundle but would still like to monitor their undersea performance. The PDA Dive Computer and the wearable Divephone that it comes with, aims at addressing this particular problem and makes it easier for divers to sync their diving data.

The Divephone has been designed by Mete A. MORDAG and is offered in two models namely the Sports model and the Deep model. The Sports model is more suitable for divers looking to explore the sea till the depths of 75 meter while the Deep model is more suitable for divers who are more experienced and require a tracker that can withstand the undersea conditions prevalent at depths of up to 300 meters.

The Divephone models run on a multi algorithm selection, which allows it to run two algorithms simultaneously and offer the diver and their crew a real time dive profile. The phone is designed to offer complete dive information in one screen dive and provide site maps to the wearer on the display of the wearable device. Detailed end of dive reports can also be obtained by both the models, which are equipped with Fischer connector for rebreathers and piezo switches. Both the models of the Divephone are compatible with most of PDAs and mobile phones and allow users to sync their data with their mobile phones for further computing and graphics processing.
